Social Problem: Sex Education
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper. The social problem discussed is parents transferring the responsibility for sex education to schools and why so few parents talk with their children about sex. The writer comments on the functionalist and conflict perspectives of family and education. The essay reports polls that reveal what themes parents want emphasized in sex education programs as well as polls of adolescents that reveal their preference to discuss this topic with their parents. The writer concludes that parents need to take back the function of sex education. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Social Problems Amongst The Homeless
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Homelessness is not a disease that afflicts only a certain segment of the population. No different than the next person, those who have no permanent address or source of income in the Midwest still have certain shared basic needs that have great difficulty being met when they are perpetually represented as inferior and unworthy of such needs. Human nature is defined by myriad elements, not the least of which is the social need to categorize people into distinct groupings based upon certain criteria. These innate classifications can represent significant social power, as in the case of beauty, wealth and status, or they can symbolize aspects of society that people would just as soon forget, such as the homeless. For this population to become able to fully function within a society that expects perfection from those who least possess it, the presence of myriad internal and external social considerations reflects the protective shield against this happening. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Social Resistance
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. To discuss social resistance without referring to racial discord throughout the ages is to overlook one of the most critical examples of the delicate balance of the controlling/controlled relationship. The historic value of blacks asserting their resistance against the heartlessness of white domination is clearly chronicled in Gaines' "A Gathering of Old Men" whereby the author illustrates the extent to which people can be pushed within the confines of oppression before they turn and face the opposition head on and with full force. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Social Rituals
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Rituals - the acts of social interaction as simple as having coffee together or as considerable as slaying an animal for sacrifice - define the fundamental connectors between and among global communities. People interact through rituals based upon their cultural mandates; for Americans to sit down to a meal where dog is the main course defies the very foundation of what is appropriate, however Filipinos consider this to be entirely acceptable. Indeed, the vast and various tenets that bind people to the rituals in which they partake serve to define the subtle nuances that comprise the human race. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
