Multiple Personality Disorder
[ send me this paper ]
15 pages in length. Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD), also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and often mistaken as a form of schizophrenia, is critical condition where more than one separate personality inhabits a single person. These identities take turns controlling the often reserved main personality to the point of making the afflicted individual exhibit conflicting characteristics from moment to moment or day to day. Moreover, extensive memory loss is a primary component of MPD by virtue of the ongoing psychological imbalance. In short, it is the failure to "integrate various aspects of identity, memory and consciousness in a single multidimensional self" (Stephens, 2005). The writer discusses cause, effect and treatment. Bibliography lists 19 sources.

Multiple Personality Disorder (Dissociative Identity Disorder)
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing Multiple Personality Disorder. Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or as it is now known Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a psychiatric disorder in which an individual experiences a dissociation with memories and in doing so creates two or more separate personalities. Historically, MPD was recorded as different forms of hysteria and previous to 1973, fewer than 50 cases were documented. Since 1973 however, the year that the popular best seller “Sybil” was published, over 40,000 cases of MPD have been reported in North America alone. Many critics still argue as to whether or not MPD is a “real” disorder or whether or not it has been “constructed” from a social perspective during therapy. Nevertheless, within the last 25 years, MPD/DID has been associated with childhood sexual abuse and traditional therapies have been used to try and recovery memories of a patient’s childhood in an attempt to uncover the initial trauma to the patient which led to the disorder. Once memories have been recovered, therapists then try and reconstruct the patient’s dominant personality. Regardless of the controversy which has surrounded MPD/DID, most researchers still attest that whether or not the disorder has been constructed by the patient or the therapist, the disorder and dissociation is still very real to the patient and must be treated through therapy. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Murray And Engler: Personality Characteristics
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Murray is quite insightful by stating "there is no personality characteristic that is not possessed and manifested at least occasionally, to a slight extent, by everyone," being that human beings have a tendency to put forth a better, somewhat contrived personality when in specific situations. This assertion is further supported by Engler, who cites Murray in Chapter V of her book entitled Personality Theories, by way of explicating the fundamental principles of Murray's theory on traits and personology. In essence, the external environment is a significant factor in the way in which people respond and behave in certain situations, such as social gatherings, legal proceedings and putting forth public figure images.
