Liz Rosenberg/Happy Eyes, Prose Poems
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page review of Liz Rosenberg's Happy Eyes, which is a collection of extraordinary prose poems. In her introductory note to this text Rosenberg explains that she considers this form of expression to present a wider view than conventional poetry, which is "vertical" as opposed to the "horizontal window" presented by a prose poem. As the reader delves into the Rosenberg's world, this meaning becomes clearer. Using the tools of poetry, metaphor, lyrically descriptive phrases and the natural rhythm of words, Rosenberg offers prose vignettes that perfectly capture a moment in time. Logopoeia/Pound & Eliot
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page essay that contrasts and compares the principle of logopoeia in Ezra Pound's Canto II and Eliot's The Waste Land. Ezra Pound defines the poetic term "logopoeia," as "'the dance of the intellect among words'" (Pound How to Read 939). By this Pound means that words not only have a direct surface meaning, but the poet also takes into account connotations and "special habits of usage" (Pound How to Read 939). Logopoeia is so vocabulary specific that it cannot be translated, but Pound feels that the attitude of mind that it expresses may be convened in another tongue through a paraphrase, although he seems to feel that this is not likely. This poetic term applies aptly to Pound's Cantos and to T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land. Examination of Canto II and Eliot's masterpiece demonstrates the essence of logopoeia, as each work has complex imagery, which presents complex and multi-layered meaning that requires not only a detailed knowledge of English, but also a detailed background in English and classical references. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Love and Time in Three Poems of William Butler Yeats
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the poetry of William Butler Yeats with a primary focus on “Adam’s Curse.” In the vast majority of Yeats’ love poetry he is able to separate a clearly personal experience and emphasize its greater universality in terms of shared emotion and a tone of melancholy awareness that transfixes most people at some point in the midst of their greater experience of love. “Adam’s Curse” is not unique in its ability to express those broad and often disturbing visions of the experience of love and loss. Many of Yeats’ love poems also convey such sentiments and “Never Give All the Heart” and “O Do not Love too Long” are also examined. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
