"First Confession" By Frank O'Connor
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Frank O'Connor's First Confession describes the horror and of a young boy's first time in confessional. Amidst the growing fear of having to commit to a lifetime of sins, Jackie believes beyond a shadow of a doubt that upon stating such unbecoming behavior, he would certainly perish the very night he confessed. He was not sure if he was more afraid of instant death or of meeting the priest, who he envisioned as an intolerant and judgmental individual. As it turns out, he learns that his fears are unfounded with regard to both his confession and the priest, because the priest is no more threatening than any other adult with whom he would converse and strangely enough, he did not condemn Jackie for the sins he was sure would cost him his life. "Galileo's Daughter" By Dava Sobel
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The relationship that existed between Galileo and his daughter Virginia, later renamed Suor Maria Celeste after entering a convent at age 13, was unlike most other father/daughter alliances, inasmuch as both individuals drew their very strength of spiritual and mortal existence from the other to the exclusion of virtually all others. The extent to which Galileo treasured the eldest of his three illegitimate children is eloquently captured in Dava Sobel's Galileo's Daughter, a profound and touching account of social expectations and personal triumphs that helped to connect both Galileo and Maria Celeste for life. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

"Gawain and the Greek Knight"/"Wife of Bath's Tale"
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page essay that contrasts and compares these two tales. The Middle Ages are generally not associated with humor, as the medieval era brings to mind in the public consciousness, the terror of the Black Plague, the Inquisition, and incessant warfare. However, two tales from the late thirteenth century, "Sir Gawain and the Greek Knight," author unknown, and "The Wife of Bath' Tale" by Geoffrey Chaucer offer modern readers insight into the worldview of this period and demonstrate the considerable humor and irony that characterizes medieval English society. "Great Falls" by Richard Ford
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which discusses the story "Great Falls" by Richard Ford. The discussion involves illustrating what the narrator's involvement is, in

this through first illustrating that the story is by no means a happy one, and then ends the story illustrating how there is a boundary between two nothings. No additional sources cited.
