The Gift Tax
[ send me this paper ]
In 1997, the Taxpayer Relief Act was passed, the purpose of which was to alleviate taxes for the upper middle class and to simplify some of the more complicated tax laws then in force. The 'gift tax' was one such area. In simple terms, the gift tax is payable by the donor on gift property during the donor's lifetime. It is based on the premise that a large gift of money and, or, property would have been included as part of the donor's estate and as such, would have been subject to taxes. This 7 page paper examines the provisions of the gift tax statutes and the impact of the Taxpayer Relief Act on the utilization of gift taxes on estate planning. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Although a suspect, Gary Leon Ridgway, has been arrested and is currently on trial for four of the murders due to recent DNA evidence, it is estimated that it will take another two years and several million dollars to complete the trial and still will not satisfy investigators, criminologists and the public in regards to the other women who were killed and why the killings apparently abruptly stopped in 1984.

The Hinks Case and the Theft Act of 1968
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing the
dishonesty aspect of this British law. The intent of the Theft Law obviously is a good and
useful one. The judge in the Hinks case defines well the measure by which the jury was to
determine dishonest intent, and framing the definition in terms of current codes of decency
keeps the law current. All involved in the legal system likely needs to guard against
perverting the goal of the law, however. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
