(15 pp) The United States is home to approximately 57 million children under age 15 and nearly 20 million between 4 and 8 years old. Experts believe that the teenage population may reach almost 30 million by 2006. This population growth may partially explain why the United States has witnessed a nationwide epidemic of juvenile violence in the past 15 years. This discussion will look at suggested programs and treatments. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

The Current Status Of Juvenile Delinquency
[ send me this paper ]
15 pages in length. The current status of juvenile delinquency reflects a growing concern toward core family breakdown and environmental influences. Clearly, the family structure is not a solid representation of strength and support as it has been considered in the past; rather, contemporary juveniles are often left to raise themselves amidst social, economic and political barriers that inevitably transform into delinquent behavior. As well, such environmental factors as poor academic guidance also stands to instigate negative behavior. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

The Dark Subculture of Law Enforcement
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page discussion of the police profession and the subculture that characterizes it. The author contends that the law enforcement profession directs the interests of those engaged in it, shapes their values, determines their relationships with others, and pulls people of similar interests and often similar personalities together. In most cases this is a positive phenomena. In some ways, however, the police profession is a subculture that has more of a deleterious impact on society than a positive one. The Death Penalty -- Comparing Saudi Arabia and the United States
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses the fact that numerous nations throughout the world find the fact that the United States allows and acts upon a death penalty to be a barbaric example of how uncivilized and violent America truly is. In 1998, both China and The Congo executed more people than the 68 killed in the United States. Iran (66), Egypt (48), Belarus (33), Taiwan (32) and Saudi Arabia are examples of the attitudes of other nations and other cultures. For the purposes of this report, the differences and similarities that exist between the United States and Saudi Arabia are used to illustrate the attitudes, beliefs, and politics associated with the implementation of the death penalty. The Death Penalty: Arguments For and Against
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing the arguments presented for and against the death penalty. The arguments for and against the death penalty often involve similar areas of concern: religion, justice, deterrence, cost, and respect for human life among other aspects. Currently there are over 3,500 people on death row in the United States and the controversy over the continued implementation of the death sentence continues. Advocates for the support of the death penalty argue that public opinion demands continuation of the death penalty as still over 64% of Americans support it. This percentage has decreased recently however in view of the number of convictions which have been reversed based on new DNA evidence in many of the crimes which further supports one of the arguments against the death penalty; the number of innocent people on death row. This along with the over-representation of minorities on death row indicates to many that there is something intrinsically wrong with the system. Advocates however believe that the support for the death penalty perhaps relates to society believing in the moral benefits and the usefulness of doing justice. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

The Death Penalty: In Support From An Ethical Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The death penalty was created for a specific purpose; not only was it imperative for those who took another's life to be punished for such a horrendous assault against mankind, but they were bound to do so by forfeiting their own existence in exchange. When death penalty opponents cite such issues as human rights, unconstitutionality, the alleged absence of impact upon the incidence of homicide or the old adage that 'two wrongs do not make a right,' what they fail to incorporate into their collective opinion is when one kills, he no longer deserves to live. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
