Capital Punishment and Juvenile Offenders
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page paper considers the issue of capital punishment for juvenile offenders. Over the course of the past two decades, the issue of capital punishment and its application for juvenile offenders has been at the heart of legal debates. In 1988, the United States Supreme Court, in their decision in the case of Thompson v. Oklahoma (487 U.S. 815 (1988)), argued that the use of capital punishment for minors constituted "cruel and unusual punishment" as defined by the Eighth Amendment. Just one year later, in the case of Stanford v. Kentucky (492 U.S. 361 (1989)), the Court held that the Eighth Amendment did not categorically oppose the use of capital punishment for 16 or 17 year old juvenile offenders. Capital Punishment Related To Juvenile Crime
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The recent incidence of juvenile killers has brought to light a concern that has long challenged the fundamental components of a civilized society: Should adolescents who commit murder be sentenced to death the same as their adult counterparts? While some contend that permitting capital punishment blatantly violates both international law and constitutionality – asserting juveniles are often a product of their adverse environments and, therefore, should be given extensive behavioral therapy in order to assimilate back into society – others argue that adolescents who have not yet learned the difference between right and wrong should no longer be allowed to function as a civilized human being. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Capital Punishment: Americans Are Ambivalent
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The issue of capital punishment is, perhaps, one of the most hotly contested of all contemporary controversial issues; while some believe that one who kills should pay his debt to society with his own life, others contend that two wrongs -- in the case of executing a murderer -- do not make a right. The writer offers both sides of the debate, as well as illustrates how supporters are now outweighing opponents in the twenty-first century. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Capital Punishment: Morally Acceptable And Effective Crime Deterrent
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. The debate over capital punishment is perhaps one of the most vehemently fought social, ethical and political disputes raging as strongly today as it has in decades past. The extent to which no definitive decision exists whereby capital punishment is deemed either right or wrong is both grand and far-reaching; that biblical advocacy and proven deterrence help to shift the benefit of this much contested action in the pro directions speaks to two issues that justify its usage. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Capital Punishment: Overview And Opposition
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. From drugs to kidnapping and self-defense to first-degree murder, virtually no felon is free of the potential verdict of the death sentence. White-collar crime is just as vulnerable to a decision for capital punishment as is one who bludgeons his victim with his bare hands. The severity of the crime is not so much in the trail of blood left behind as it is in the overall aftermath. Inasmuch as capital punishment is such an intensely explosive issue, supporters and opponents alike do their best to persuade the opposition of their viewpoint. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
